In our world, we always intend to find happiness from the wealth accumulated on earth. So, richness and prosperity in asset, money and investment are attractive, charming and appealing to many people with very few exception.
Perhaps, some people may disagree because they are not so materialistic and secularly addicted to the pursuit of personal wealth as depicted popularly in financial magazine, entertainment and news. In fact, if we are supposed to have open and free option to become rich or poor, how many people is willing to choose living and surviving in a poor family without further resources for personal enjoyment. Our Lord Jesus is the living example like this. Jesus comes to the world in poor so that we become rich in God.
I saw an advertisement on this topics which stimulates me to rethink about the life style and true happiness enjoyed in life. If happiness is built on resources, asset and how much we own and have, the happiness is not fully explored and will not last too long since our desire is so unlimited without reasonable boundaries. When we want more and try to get more, our happiness will soon fade away and finally replaced with sadness of disappointment, anger and dissatisfaction.
One way of being true happiness is taking the opposite approach as taught by Apostle Paul. Giving carries more blessings than getting. If we are willing to give and share, that means we put less weighing and priority on what we have with higher priority setting over others than just ourselves. In this way, the happiness is not come from the materialistic things externally, but it grows and nourishes internally and happily inside our heart and mind with no reservation from the grace and love of the God.
Why we could do this? This is because the God has set us a good example of giving for us to follow and enjoy in love of Jesus Christ for the people around us.
Acts
20:33 I have had no desire for any man's silver or gold or clothing.
20:34 You yourselves have seen that with these hands I got what was necessary for me and those who were with me.
20:35 In all things I was an example to you of how, in your lives, you are to give help to the feeble, and keep in memory the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, There is a greater blessing in giving than in getting.
