What We Must Do Before We Die?
回覆刪除This sounds to be a very serous and disinteresting question to all people.
First of all, no one interests in death. Secondly, why we bother when we are going to die as we cannot predict our date of death? Thirdly, if death comes, do we have anything we must do by that time? The questions may appear too stupid to follow through in reality.
However, our logical view is just opposite to the Biblical View where the living God reminds us our life on earth is too short and uncertain to waste and go astray.
In all circumstances, does the question relate to the person who is going to die soon or nearly goes to die? For a normal person in good health of normal life, it does not mean anything at all since we do not know when we go to die,? In fact, we do not want to bother it and think about it too seriously as it appears irrelevant to me and too far away to imagine at the moment.
In eyes of God, all people are heading to the death and our life is very short as compared with the life of eternity. If we do not take all opportunity available in a day of life, we are wasting all our good time in the end as the death can come in at any time beyond our imagination and comprehension. Death can come in all formats which we have no power to control or delay it at all in reality. It sounds too negative, isn’t it?
Therefore, in the Bible, our God of life Creator reminds us:
Ecclesiastes 12
12:1 So remember your Creator in the days of your youth – before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”;
12:2 before the sun and the light of the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds disappear after the rain;
12:3 when those who keep watch over the house begin to tremble, and the virile men begin to stoop over, and the grinders begin to cease because they grow few, and those who look through the windows grow dim,
12:4 and the doors along the street are shut; when the sound of the grinding mill grows low, and one is awakened by the sound of a bird, and all their songs grow faint,
12:5 and they are afraid of heights and the dangers in the street; the almond blossoms grow white, and the grasshopper drags itself along, and the caper berry shrivels up because man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about in the streets –
12:6 before the silver cord is removed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is shattered at the well, or the water wheel is broken at the cistern –
12:7 and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the life’s breath returns to God who gave it.
12:8 “Absolutely futile!” laments the Teacher, “All of these things are futile!”
12:13 Having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion: Fear God and keep his commandments, because this is the whole duty of man.
12:14 For God will evaluate every deed, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.
To look at the question from the other end, what we must do while we are alive? The most important and mandatory thing is “Believe and love God in our life.”
Most of all, without committing to this, the righteous and loving God warns us, “You will die forever if you do not believe and follow the God.”
In conclusion, according to the Lord, we should be vigilant, careful and not too late to listen to the God, fear and follow Him in His way as there is always a day which can no longer come and return in our favour.
God’s way is blessings of love with hope till eternity. Our destination is the end of death with no way out.
Peter
